From 10 June to 13 June 2025, Buru Mohlabane – a leading figure in Pantsula – is in residence in Roubaix. Take part in the events devised by the choreographer: workshops for the general public and professional masterclasses.
Buru Isaac Mohlabane, born in 1983 in Katlehong, South Africa, is a renowned Pantsula dancer, choreographer and co-director of the Via Katlehong dance company. Having begun his professional career at the age of 14, Buru Isaac Mohlabane has devoted over 24 years to the promotion and recognition of Pantsula, a South African dance rooted in township culture and social unity.
In his work, Buru Isaac Mohlabane emphasises the importance of collaboration, the social impact of art and its ability to unite communities. He has directed productions such as Inkululeko and Via Kanana, which have brought Pantsula to an international audience. Dedicated to formalising Pantsula as a professional dance form, Buru Isaac Mohlabane envisions it as a globally respected form that preserves its cultural roots while evolving towards therapeutic and inclusive values, offering a space for healing and expression for all.
