From June 10 to June 13, 2025, Buru Mohlabane – a major figure in Pantsula – is in residence in Roubaix. Join the choreographer for a series of workshops for the general public and professional masterclasses.


Buru Isaac Mohlabane, born in 1983 in Katlehong, South Africa, is a renowned Pantsula dancer, choreographer and co-director of the Via Katlehong dance company. Having begun his professional career at the age of 14, Buru has devoted over twenty-four years to the promotion and recognition of Pantsula, a South African dance rooted in township culture and social unity. Her career is punctuated by international performances, educational projects and cultural exchange programs, which present Pantsula as an artistic form of resilience and expression. In his work, Buru emphasizes the importance of collaboration, the social impact of art and its ability to unite communities. He has directed productions such as Inkululeko and Via Kanana, which have brought Pantsula to an international audience. Dedicated to formalizing Pantsula as a professional dance, Buru envisions it as a globally respected form that preserves its cultural roots while evolving towards therapeutic and inclusive values, offering a space for healing and expression for all.
