Ana Pérez, a virtuoso of flamenco, is fascinated by the sounds her dance makes. In the style of the Zapateado, a song whose rhythm is provided by the performer’s feet, she decided to write a concerto for shoes. And as she is size 37 ½, it is a Concerto in 37 ½. Far removed from Andalusian folk imagery, the plain set and the hybrid musical composition reinforce the strength of the performance between the dancer, the live musicians and the audience.
